Peercoin (PPC) is the first proof-of-stake cryptocurrency, launched by Sunny King in 2012.

Peercoin mixed coin-age proof of stake with Scrypt proof of work so minting, not only hashing, could secure the chain. That design predates the later wave of pure-PoS platforms. The point was sustainability: less energy than a hash-rate arms race, with PoW still in the mix. We keep PPC/BTC because first-of-kind coins belong on a book that still cares about 2011–2013 history.
