Zcash is a Bitcoin-family coin with optional shielded payments via zk-SNARKs.

Launched in 2016 from the Zerocash work, Zcash keeps a 21 million cap and Equihash proof of work, with block times around 75 seconds in later upgrades. Shielded pools (Sprout, then Sapling, then Orchard/Halo 2) let you hide sender, receiver, and amount; transparent t-addresses behave like Bitcoin. Privacy is opt-in, which is the opposite of Monero's default. We list ZEC so traders can choose that tradeoff themselves.
