Clamcoin (CLAM) was created by AltQuick.com’s CTO, Scott Llewellyn (aka X), in 2014. AltQuick CEO Steven Steiner has been a major CLAM holder since 2014. Clamcoin (CLAM) is an altcoin that was given away for free to all addresses on the Bitcoin, Dogecoin, and Litecoin networks to every address that held over the “dust” amount. CLAM then uses Proof of Stake (POS) to secure the network and distribute new Clamcoins to the network.

With Clamcoin there is no traditional mining. All of the traditional cryptocurrency mining was completed by Bitcoin, Dogecoin, and Litecoin. The proof of work was rewarded by CLAM to those addresses that held balances on May 12, 2014, and each qualifying address was given 4.60545574 CLAMS for free. The cryptocurrencies BTC, DOGE, & LTC are all based on SHA-256 encryption. This means that although they all have different public keys, they all share the same private keys!

The Bitcoin address 1PpP1Lt... shares the same private key as the Dogecoin address DTxUYb... and the Litecoin address Li3LGZ.... Clamcoin was able to utilize this fact + the fact that all blockchain transactions are public and then use these two features to widely distribute CLAM for free to those cryptocurrency holders. CLAM was the first cryptocurrency to do this style of distribution.

Users are still able to claim their 4.60545574 CLAMs for free! It’s highly recommended that users use the automated digging tool on the Clamclient itself. The Clamclient automatically sniffs through the cryptocurrency wallet and automatically digs hidden change addresses that many wallets contain. Alternatively, users can also claim their free CLAMS by using the digging service located in the “Chat” box on Just-Dice.com. Clamcoin has been at the center of several major controversies over the years that has caused the price to decrease. CLAM was used as the cryptocurrency to exploit a serious flaw on a crypto exchange called Poloniex. Poloniex lost 1,800 BTC in a matter of minutes because the CLAM price suddenly crashed. This sudden crash caused the entire lending pool of users on Poloniex to lose their investments with no liquidity to cash them out. Although this was 100% a Poloniex problem, CLAM was delisted from Poloniex. Other exchanges soon followed suit and delisted CLAM rather than run the risk of getting their exchange hacked by intelligent users.

The purpose of CLAM is to allow people to experience Proof of Stake (POS) for free. Proof of stake is an eco-friendly way that cryptocurrencies can secure their network using the coin itself. Clamcoin isn’t only a coin, but it’s a digital miner as well. CLAMS mine CLAMS in a POS network. This means that rather than cashing CLAMS out to buy mining equipment, users cash into CLAM and those CLAMS mine simply by being connected to the internet. Clamcoin blockchain times happen on average every minute and each block contains miner fees plus a 1.0 CLAM block reward bonus for the miner or pool that staked the block. The one CLAM block reward bonus causes there to be roughly 1,440 new CLAMS minted every day. These new coins help encourage people to hold Clamcoin, a small amount of deflation helps encourage people to actively use their CLAMS, and staking helps support websites that accept CLAMS.
